Important Notice: Critical Security Update for VidyoConnect for Desktop

Important Notice: Critical Security Update for VidyoConnect for Desktop

Enghouse Vidyo would like to make our customers utilizing VidyoConnect for Desktop aware that a change in our vendor for software signing certificates was required. To support those certificates, the new VidyoConnect for Desktop 21.6.4 and 22.3.0 releases contain critical updates.

As a consequence of this change, older versions of our clients will stop auto-updating from the VidyoPortal starting July 11th. While the older versions will continue to work, they will fail the auto-update process and will periodically present an auto-update error until the application is manually updated.

Note: If you have deployed VidyoConnect for Desktop via an MSI solution, your endpoints do not get their updates from the VidyoPortal; therefore, they are not impacted by this issue.

Which products are affected?

  • VidyoConnect for Desktop version 21.6.3 or earlier
  • VidyoConnect for Desktop version 22.x

What actions must I take now?

  • If you are using VidyoConnect for Desktop version 21.6.3 or earlier: Updating to version 21.6.4 is mandatory if you want to be able to receive automatic updates in the future from the VidyoPortal. This version is a critical checkpoint in terms of your upgrade path. You will not be able to update to future versions automatically without first updating to this mandatory version.
    • For example, if you are on version 21.5.0 now and you decide to skip 21.6.4, but you later want to update to 21.6.8, you will not be able to push out the update automatically via the VidyoPortal. Instead, your users will need to download the installer from the VidyoPortal and run the installation manually. Due to this, we strongly suggest updating to 21.6.4 now.
  • If you are using VidyoConnect for Desktop version 22.x: Updating to version 22.3.0 is mandatory if you want to be able to receive automatic updates in the future from the VidyoPortal. This version is a critical checkpoint in terms of your upgrade path. You will not be able to update to future versions automatically without first updating to this mandatory version.
    • For example, if you are on version 22.2.0 now and you decide to skip 22.3.0, but you later want to update to 22.4.0, you will not be able to push out the update automatically via the VidyoPortal. Instead, your users will need to download the installer from the VidyoPortal and run the installation manually. Due to this, we strongly suggest updating to 22.3.0 now.

When can I get the new releases?

  • On-premises customers can download either VidyoConnect for Desktop version 21.6.4 or version 22.3.0 on June 30, 2022.
  • Cloud customers will be automatically upgraded in the coming weeks.

Where can I get more information about the releases?

End of Support: VidyoGateway TLS 1.0 and 1.1 on VidyoCloud

End of Support Announcement: VidyoGateway™ TLS 1.0 and 1.1 on VidyoCloud

Enghouse Vidyo announces the End of Support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in our VidyoGateway SIP TLS integrations on VidyoCloud as of January 1, 2022. We will continue to support TLS 1.2 and later. These newer versions of the TLS protocol enable more modern cryptography and are broadly supported across SIP endpoints.

Why is this change necessary?

TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are outdated protocols that do not support modern cryptographic algorithms, and they contain known security vulnerabilities. The Internet Engineering Task Force is planning to officially deprecate both protocols. In addition, the vast majority of encrypted Internet traffic is now over TLS 1.2, which was introduced over a decade ago.

What actions can I take now?

To prevent any disruption in accessing VidyoGateway services after the deadline of January 1, 2022, Enghouse Vidyo highly recommends that you audit your SIP TLS integrations with VidyoCloud to remove any TLS 1.0 and 1.1 dependencies in your environments.

Understanding Install Licenses and Line Licenses

As described in the table below, Enghouse Vidyo uses two types of licenses: Install licenses and Line licenses:

License Description
Install Licenses
  • A one-time license consumed by each device (e.g., laptop, PC, tablet, smartphone) that joins a conference for the first time from the VidyoPortal.
  • Endpoints used: VidyoConnect™ for Desktop, VidyoConnect for Mobile, VidyoDesktop™, VidyoWeb™, and VidyoMobile™.
Line Licenses
  • A perpetual software license through the VidyoRouter – either point-to-point or multipoint.
  • Allows concurrent endpoint connections that can join a conference or call at any given time.
  • When the endpoint disconnects from the call, the line becomes available for use.
