VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 22.5.0

What's new in this release?

Support for macOS 13 Ventura

  • The Continuity Camera feature is available with VidyoConnect for Desktop on macOS Ventura. This feature enables you to use your iPhone as a webcam.

Invitation rights for the tenant admin are now the same as the room owner

  • This feature is activated by default and requires no setup.

Customize guest upgrade location

  • We are adding support to choose the location where your guest users get updates from.
  • Starting with 22.5.0, your guest users will automatically be updated using the version you have uploaded on your tenant.
  • If you want your guests to update using the default location that Vidyo hosts, you can choose to do so using the portal custom parameter “UpdateGuestsFromFallback”.

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 22.4.0: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1400

VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 22.4.0

What's new in this release?

Ability to change the beauty screen layout for patients/providers

  • Admins can now change the layout of the guest beauty screen to a layout optimized for a patient/provider experience.
    • The new layout includes separate Provider Join and Patient Join buttons.

  • To change the beauty screen layout to the one shown above, admins must add the beautyScreenMode=1 parameter to the URL.

Admin-uploaded virtual backgrounds and default backgrounds

  • In addition to the virtual backgrounds that already come with the VidyoConnect desktop app, admins can now upload up to ten more images.
    • For privacy reasons, only logged-in users can see the admin-uploaded images.

  • Additionally, admins can now configure a default virtual background for guests and/or registered users who haven't selected any virtual backgrounds before.
  • To use these features, the Tenant Admin must configure them on the VidyoPortal.

Voluntary hardware test

  • In this release, we're introducing a voluntary pre-call hardware test which enables users to check their hardware before joining a call.
    • The ability to run the voluntary hardware test is enabled by default.
    • A mandatory hardware test, which requires users to perform the test before joining the call, is also available and can still be initiated by admins using a custom invocation via Epic CAL.
  • Users can access the voluntary test before they are logged in by clicking Test Conference Hardware on the VidyoConnect beauty screen.

Ability to add contact information to the hardware test

  • Tenant admins can now add their contact information to the hardware test so users can reach out for support if they are experiencing issues with their hardware.

  • To use this feature, the Tenant Admin must configure it on the VidyoPortal.

Post-call survey

  • All our VidyoConnect products now offer a post-call survey. This feature presents users with a five-star survey at the end of each call.

  • To use this feature, the Tenant Admin must configure it on the VidyoPortal.

When?

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 22.3.0: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1392

VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 22.3.0

What's new in this release?

Critical security update

  • A change in our vendor for software signing certificates was required. To support those certificates, this release contains critical updates within VidyoConnect for Desktop.
  • As a consequence of this change, older versions of our clients will stop auto-updating from the VidyoPortal starting July 11th.
    • While the older versions will continue to work, they will fail the auto-update process and will periodically present an auto-update error until the application is manually updated.
  • Updating to version 22.3.0 is mandatory if you want to be able to receive automatic updates in the future from the VidyoPortal. This version is a critical checkpoint in terms of your upgrade path. You will not be able to update to future versions automatically without first updating to this mandatory version.
    • For example, if you are on version 22.2.0 now and you decide to skip 22.3.0, but you later want to update to 22.4.0, you will not be able to push out the update automatically via the VidyoPortal. Instead, your users will need to download the installer from the VidyoPortal and run the installation manually. Due to this, we strongly suggest updating to 22.3.0 now.
  • If you have deployed VidyoConnect for Desktop via an MSI solution, your endpoints do not get their updates from the VidyoPortal; therefore, they are not impacted by this issue.

Hardware check in Epic CAL workflows

  • In this release, we're introducing a pre-call hardware check into the Epic CAL workflow using a Custom Invocation URL parameter. When configured, this feature requires users to check their hardware before joining a call.
    • Users must go through three steps that help them check their speaker, microphone, and camera. For each step, users choose the device and perform the test.

    • If there is a hardware malfunction, users are given steps to alleviate the problem. They are also notified that their experience may be compromised.
  • To configure the hardware check, Epic administrators can add the following Custom Invocation URL parameter in their FDI record for generating Epic CAL links:
    • hwt=1: Enabling this would make the users go through the three-step hardware test.
    • hwtStrictMode=1: This is an additional parameter you can set to make the hardware check "strict". "Strict" means your users will not be able to join the meeting if one or more of their devices have failed.
  • Note:
    • This feature is available only with VidyoPortal version 22.4.1 or later.
    • The parameter must go outside the CRYPTSTRING in your FDI record.

Inactivity timer custom parameter for Epic

  • The new "InactivityTimer" custom parameter enables Tenant Admins to set a timeout value for guests and/or registered Epic users. After the specified amount of time during which a participant is alone in a call, the VidyoConnect app disconnects the guest or registered user.
    • The default timeout value is 6 hours (21600 minutes).
    • The Tenant Admin can set up this parameter for guest and registered users separately.
  • To use this feature, the Tenant Admin must configure it on the VidyoPortal.

Support for camera presets on VISCA cameras

  • If you're in a call with a VidyoConnect Room or VidyoRoom system that has a VISCA camera that supports camera presets, you can now see and use the presets from your VidyoConnect Desktop UI.
  • Camera presets are stored camera settings, such as the camera’s position and PTZ settings. When you select a preset, the camera quickly moves to the stored position.
    • For example, a VidyoConnect Room system in a patient's room may have presets set to point at the bed, the monitor, and the doorway. By selecting the "bed" preset, the camera would quickly move to point at the patient's bed.
  • To access the camera presets, simply select a user that has the Far End Camera Control (FECC) feature enabled. The VidyoConnect window displays the FECC indicator on the participant’s avatar and on their video tile.

    • You can then click on the Select preset drop-down and select the preset you want to move the camera to.

    • Keep in mind that the preset switch is a selector, not a status indicator. That is, once you select a preset, it will go back to displaying "Select preset". This does not mean that your preset has not been selected.
  • All the pan, tilt, and zoom functions still exist, so you have the ability to use those in addition to using camera presets.
  • Note: This feature is available only with VidyoPortal version 22.3.1 or later and VidyoConnect Room or VidyoRoom version 22.3.0 or later.

CEF update on macOS

  • To improve performance, we updated the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) on macOS.

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 22.2.0: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1380

VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 22.2.0

What's new in this release?

Easily view call statistics

  • You can now use the new Statistics button on the VidyoConnect Settings > Help page to see statistics about your ongoing video call.

  • The statistics displayed include the transmit and receive bandwidth availability and utilization, the audio and video statistics for all the participants, and more.

Better control of outbound video settings

  • We've updated the VidyoConnect Settings > Audio/Video page with an Outbound Processing Setting for configuring your processing power and an Outbound Video Bitrate Setting for configuring your network power.

  • These new settings give you finer control on how much processing power and bandwidth VidyoConnect uses, thereby enabling you to better control the quality of the video and the participant experience during conferences.

Support for PCP-USB stethoscope

  • To give our healthcare customers more choices, we've added support for a new stethoscope: the PCP-USB stethoscope.

Epic auto moderator PIN updates

  • We've updated the workflow for auto-provisioned Epic healthcare providers who join a call. Any auto-provisioned provider who now joins a call continues to be a moderator even when other auto-provisioned providers join. Prior to this release, only the auto-provisioned provider who joined the call last would have been the moderator.

    • To see the list of available country codes, click the small arrow near the flag icon. You must enter a country code from the list since only those on the list have been set up on your system.
      • As of this release, service to support the dial out feature is limited to the United States and Canada.

    • When you finish entering the number, click Call.
      • A message appears on the upper-right of the VidyoConnect app indicating that an outgoing call is being placed to the number you entered.
    • Once the user receives the call, they are automatically added to your ongoing VidyoConnect meeting.
      • If the user doesn't answer the call and you try to call them again, a message appears asking if you’re sure you want to call again.
      • Messages also appear if you entered an invalid country code, the incorrect number of digits, the wrong number format, or if the room is locked.
  • To invite another participant to your call by using SMS:
    • Click the SMS tab on the left side of the VidyoConnect app and enter the phone number of the person you want to invite.

    • To see the list of available country codes, click the small arrow near the flag icon. You must enter a country code from the list since only those on the list have been set up on your system.
      • As of this release, service to support the SMS feature is limited to the United States and Canada.
    • When you finish entering the number, either accept the default message in the "Enter text message" text box or change the message as desired.

      • If the room has PIN code, a message below the "Enter text message" text box reminds you that you must tell the invited participant what the PIN code is.
    • Click Send SMS.
      • A message appears on the upper-right of the VidyoConnect app indicating that an SMS message was sent to the number you entered.
    • Once the user receives the SMS message, they can open the link and join the VidyoConnect meeting. Depending on their server, they may join using VidyoConnect for WebRTC or using their mobile client.
      • If the user doesn't respond and you try to send them an SMS message again, a message appears asking if you’re sure you want to send the SMS again.
      • Messages also appear if you entered an invalid country code, the incorrect number of digits, the wrong number format, or if the room is locked.
  • Feature availability:
    • You cannot invite other users if you are simply a participant or guest that has joined the call.
    • Note: If you’re a VidyoCloud customer, new custom parameters that support these features will be automatically pushed to your tenants. Do NOT modify or delete these parameters because doing so could prevent the features from working. If you want to change the parameters in any way, contact VidyoCloud Support first.
    • You can invite others to your call by dialing out or by using SMS if you’re a registered user who has launched the video call. Additionally, if you became the call moderator using the moderator PIN, you can invite others to join the call by dialing out, but you cannot invite them using SMS.
    • Currently, the dial out and SMS features are available to VidyoCloud Health customers only. However, both features will be rolled out to other VidyoCloud customers periodically. On-premises customers will be able to get these features in the near future.

View participant surnames in chat

  • When using chat in the VidyoConnect app, you can now see both the first name and last number of the participants who are writing the chat messages.
    • This feature makes it easier to distinguish who wrote each message, especially when more than one participant has the same first name.

Select input and output devices more easily

  • This release includes several enhancements that enable you to select, switch, and test your camera, microphone, and speaker devices more easily. For example:
    • Whether you’re on the beauty screen or you’re in a call, a small arrow now appears near each device icon so you can view a pop-up of the available devices and select or switch your devices without having to go into Settings.

    • The beauty screen now also allows you to test your mic and speaker before joining a call: a bar shows the noise level of your mic and a “Test sound” button sends a sound to your speaker.

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 21.1.0: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1314

VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 21.1.0

What's new in this release?

New webinar feature

  • The VidyoConnect desktop app now allows you to create webinars, invite users to your webinars, assign the roles of Presenter, Listener, or Moderator to the users, and configure which functions are available to the users in those roles.
    • To create a new webinar, click the Meetings tab in the left panel and then click the + sign. You can then enter a name for your webinar, select your room, and choose whether you want Presenter, Listener, and/or Moderator user roles in your webinar.

    • For each user role, you can configure the default state of various functions, including whether users' cameras and mics are muted and can be unmuted, whether the cameras and mics are disabled and cannot be enabled, and whether users in the different roles can share content, view the participants list, and chat. For the Moderator role, you can also set a moderator PIN.

  • The VidyoConnect desktop app conveniently provides different links to the webinar for each user role. You simply need to copy the appropriate link and share it or send it in a calendar invite to the users in each role.
  • This feature requires VidyoPortal version 21.2.0 or later.

Conference duration timer

  • The new conference duration timer that appears in the upper-right corner of the VidyoConnect desktop app while you are in a call lets you know how long you’ve been in the conference.

  • This timer is disabled by default, but you can enable it from the VidyoConnect Settings screen.
  • When the conference ends, a message appears indicating your total participation time. If you recorded the conference, the message also conveniently provides a link to the recording.

Ability to select from the four most recently used portals

  • To log in to your VidyoConnect desktop app, you have to indicate which portal you'd like to sign in to. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult to remember the URLs of the portals. With this version of the app, you can simply tap on the portal field to see a drop-down menu of the four portals you used most recently.

Auto-provisioning of providers via Epic CAL

  • Using Vidyo’s Epic Context-Aware Linking (CAL) integration, providers can now be automatically provisioned into their Tenant.
  • Providers can now also perform moderation actions in their Epic CAL conferences, including:
    • Inviting other users via links
    • Muting participants
    • Inviting other registered users to the conference
    • Disconnecting participants
    • Dialing out to SIP or H.323 devices
  • Provisioned providers can be configured to be automatically logged out at the end of their conferences.
  • This feature requires VidyoPortal version 21.2.0 or later.
  • For information about how to configure Epic CAL integration, refer to the Vidyo and Epic Integration with VidyoConnect Context-Aware Linking (CAL) article. For compatibility information, refer to the Epic Compatibility with Vidyo Infrastructure article.

Spanish language Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

  • When the VidyoConnect Desktop app is set to the Spanish language and a user clicks the link to the Terms of Service or Privacy Policy, that user now sees the Terms of Service or Privacy Policy in Spanish.

"Generate Diagnostic Report" renamed to "Generate Logs"

  • The VidyoConnect desktop app Settings > Help screen enables you to generate logs that you can then send to Vidyo Support. Instead of using the term "Generate Diagnostic Report" for this function, we now call it "Generate Logs".

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 19.3.1: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1256

VidyoConnect Version 19.3.1

What's New?

Enhanced Far End Camera Control (FECC) Capability

  • In this version, we enhanced the pan and tilt of the FECC functionality so the Camera Controller can now move the camera quickly and continuously rather than with only small incremental nudges.
  • This enhancement allows users, including those in healthcare or education, to smoothly and precisely move the remote camera to specific areas of the room to obtain a better view of patients, educational materials, and so on.
    • For example, acute healthcare nurses and other professionals in an eICU can now use FECC to quickly and smoothly pan and tilt the camera to view the vitals monitor, medication drip, patient's face, vent, or any other area of the patient's room.
  • Note: This version only enhances the pan and tilt capabilities. A future release will improve the zoom-in and zoom-out experience.
  • Requirements: To use the new smooth adjustment FECC capability, both the Camera Controller and the Camera Owner must use version 19.3.1 or later of the VidyoConnect desktop application.
    • For more information about the FECC capability, including the list of supported cameras, refer to the Using the VidyoConnect Far End Camera Control (FECC) Capability for Desktop and Mobile article.

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 19.1.1: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1245

Vidyo is Pleased to Announce Version 19.1.1 of the VidyoConnect™ Desktop Application

VidyoConnect version 19.1.0 introduced integration support for TytoCare, a cloud-based telehealth solution that simulates a comprehensive physical examination using a portable WiFi-enabled diagnostic device. The Tyto device allows medical professionals to examine a patient at the Point of Care (POC) and broadcast the exam data to a remote clinician. When used in conjunction with the VidyoConnect desktop application, the remote clinician can virtually meet with the POC users via secure and reliable video conferencing.

In VidyoConnect version 19.1.1, we've enhanced the TytoCare integration workflow and we’ve made it easier for users to troubleshoot TytoCare issues.

Important Notice: Version 19.1.1 will be released Thursday, March 7, 2019. In order to better serve you with a predictable release schedule, you will receive advance notice of future releases rather than receiving notice on the day of the release.

What's New?

Detection of In-Progress Tyto Exams

When a remote clinician user attempts to start a new Tyto exam, the VidyoConnect application now detects if any Tyto exams are currently in progress. This avoids the scenario where the clinician is prevented from starting a new exam because a previous exam was accidentally left open (which could occur, for example, if the clinician is dropped from a direct call).

Troubleshooting with Tyto Server Error Codes

To enable you to troubleshoot more effectively, TytoCare-related error messages now include the Tyto server error codes.

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed a privacy issue where, in VidyoConnect meetings where the muteCameraOnJoin=true custom invocation string was set and the Waiting Room feature was enabled,  the camera was not muted even though the UI showed it as muted.
  • Fixed an issue where the active speaker’s tile occasionally switched back and forth with a non-speaking participant's tile when two or more remote participants were not muted and were producing low background noise.
  • Fixed an issue where the incorrect VidyoConnect version number was displayed when viewed using Mac OS.

Product Bulletin No. 1235

Vidyo Logo
Vidyo is Pleased to Announce VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 18.5.0

In version 18.5.0, we've introduced a new feature that lets you more easily call your legacy contacts by adding them as favorites to your Contacts list. In addition, for our healthcare customers, we now allow guest users access to the digital stethoscope feature.

Important Notice: Version 18.5.0 will be released next Thursday, December 6, 2018. In order to better serve you with a predictable release schedule, you will now receive advance notice of any future releases rather than receiving notice on the day of the release.

What's New?

Add Legacy Endpoints to Your Favorite Contacts

  • If you often use the VidyoConnect application to call the same legacy H.323/SIP/Telephony endpoints, you can now add those endpoints as favorite contacts in your VidyoConnect Contacts list.
  • To add an endpoint as a favorite, search for the legacy contact using the Search bar, and then click star_button_for_adding_endpoints.png next to their alias in the results.
    • For example, let's say you often call your customer's Polycom system, which has an alias of "Polycom Legacy Device" in your VidyoConnect application. Search for "Polycom", click the star_button_for_adding_endpoints.png that appears next to "Polycom Legacy Device", and then it will appear as a favorite in your Contacts list every time you use the VidyoConnect app.

    • You can dial out to the legacy endpoint by clicking the CALL button.

  • To remove a legacy endpoint contact, simply click the star next to 'Remove from my contacts'.

Guest User Access to Digital Stethoscopes

  • The digital stethoscope feature has been available since VidyoConnect version 18.3.0 and VidyoPortal version 18.3.0.
  • Previously, the digital stethoscope feature was restricted to registered users, whereby patient-side users (a.k.a., "stethoscope owners”) were required to be signed in in order for remote physicians to access the stethoscope audio during a VidyoConnect call. Now, both patient-side users and physician users are allowed to access the stethoscope feature as guest users.
  • For more information, please refer to the Using the VidyoConnect Digital Stethoscope Feature article.

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 18.3.1: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1227

Vidyo Logo
Vidyo Is Pleased to Announce VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 18.3.1

VidyoConnect is Vidyo's meeting solution for team collaboration that speeds global alignment across your enterprise, allowing for better-informed decisions, faster responses, and deeper trust. We invite you to visit our VidyoConnect page to find out more about the VidyoConnect applications, the benefits of moving to our cloud services, and the plans we offer.

In the 18.3.1 release, we've resolved a video performance issue from the previous 18.2.4 version. Please read below for more information.

What's New?

Resolved Issue

In VidyoConnect version 18.2.4, Vidyo discovered and resolved an issue where, in certain scenarios, the VidyoConnect application would prevent the operating system from going into suspend/sleep mode and displaying a screen saver. However, black video tiles then occasionally began to appear during some video calls as a result of the fix.

In version 18.3.1, we have resolved the black tiles issue in addition to the previous screen saver issue. Therefore, the VidyoConnect application should now allow the operating system to go into suspend/sleep mode without causing black tiles to appear during active video calls.

What's New?

Resolved Issues in Version 18.2.1

  • Users can now join calls again when using Firefox® version 59, and hear the audio and view the video when using VidyoConnect for WebRTC.
  • A high memory usage/leak issue was reported to Mozilla. For more details, refer to this bug report.  Vidyo has introduced a resolution to this issue in release 18.2.2. Read below for more information.

Resolved Issues in Version 18.2.2

  • Vidyo identified a memory leak issue which was reported to Mozilla for the 18.2.1 release. Although the Mozilla bug still exists, a workaround was implemented to resolve the impact when using VidyoConnect.  When you run VidyoConnect in the Firefox browser, your operating system will no longer experience abnormal memory usage.
  • Gmail has recently blocked users from sending .cab files, which were used by VidyoConnect for Desktop for diagnostic reports. With this release, the diagnostic reports are now saved with a ".vcab" extension to allow sending the diagnostic report.
  • If you miss a VidyoConnect call, the "Missed Call" translation in Japanese now reads correctly.

VidyoConnect for Desktop Version 18.1.0: General Availability Release

Product Bulletin No. 1204

Vidyo Logo
Vidyo is Happy to Announce VidyoConnect™ for Desktop Version 18.1.0

We at Vidyo hope you've been enjoying VidyoConnect, the enterprise meeting solution for team collaboration that we introduced in November.  If you haven't tried it yet, we invite you to visit our VidyoConnect page to find out more about the VidyoConnect applications, the benefits of moving to our cloud services, and the plans we offer.

Whether you've been using VidyoConnect from its introduction or you're just switching over now, we're sure you'll enjoy the new features that we've added in this release. For more information, see below:

Whiteboard Feature

  • A whiteboard is an important collaboration tool that helps meeting participants visualize concepts and ideas, and with version 18.1.0, Vidyo is happy to announce a whiteboard feature available with the VidyoConnect desktop application.
  • With a simple click of the Whiteboard button, you can open a whiteboard, share it, and add text or draw using multiple tools and colors.
  • Meeting participants using the VidyoConnect desktop application can simply request to annotate, and the whiteboard owner gives them control.
  • You can create multiple whiteboards during your conference, and then save them to your desktop as a JPG, PNG, or PDF.
  • For more information, see the Using the VidyoConnect for Desktop Whiteboard Feature article on the Vidyo Help Center.

Localized User Interface

  • We’ve localized the VidyoConnect user interface into six additional languages. Therefore, if English is not your primary language, you can select to view the VidyoConnect UI in one of these languages instead:

    • French
    • German
    • Italian
    • Japanese
    • Simplified Chinese
    • Spanish
  • If your operating system language is set to one of these six languages, VidyoConnect automatically chooses that language for your UI; otherwise, it defaults to English. You can, however, easily change it from English to any one of these other languages from the Settings menu.

Waiting Room Feature

  • The Waiting Room feature prevents meeting participants who are using the VidyoConnect desktop application from seeing or hearing each other until the room owner joins the room.

  • As an administrator, you can enable or disable this feature from the Room Attributes page on the Tenant Admin portal. Before upgrading to version 18.1.0, we recommend that you check your settings to ensure that they are set appropriately for your Tenant. For more information, see the Configuring Room Attributes article on the Vidyo Help Center.

    • The Waiting Room feature is supported starting with version 18.1.0 of VidyoConnect for Desktop. Support for VidyoConnect for Mobile endpoints will be announced as it becomes available.

  • For more information about the Waiting Room feature, see the Using the VidyoConnect for Desktop Waiting Room Feature article on the Vidyo Help Center.

Support for Bandwidth Allocation

  • Tenant Admins are now able to control the bandwidth allocation per user group. If you’re a Tenant Admin, see the Managing Groups as the Tenant Admin article on the Vidyo Help Center for more information.

Resolved Issues

  • In this release, we’ve continued to improve the reliability and security of VidyoConnect by resolving a number of issues.
