Using VidyoProxy as a troubleshooting tool

Troubleshooting scenario

In situations a particular network’s UDP timeout or restriction in port range is suspected of causing disconnections, you can force VidyoDesktop to use VidyoProxy.  That will enable communications with the VidyoCloud infrastructure on TCP port 443 thus bypassing the rules that govern UDP on that firewall.

VidyoProxy

This feature is available within your VidyoCloud service.  It’s designed for restricted networks that prevent a VidyoDesktop endpoint from connecting successfully with the VidyoCloud infrastructure on its standard ports.  It dynamically allows VidyoDesktop endpoints to reach the VidyoCloud infrastructure using TCP port 443 as an alternative.

VidyoProxy can also be force enabled on the endpoint side for troubleshooting purposes.

Enable VidyoProxy manually within VidyoDesktop

Go to Settings > Network and check “Always use VidyoProxy”.

(Vidyo does not recommend using this feature beyond troubleshooting due to TCP not being an ideal protocol for audio/video communications).

Standard ports used by VidyoCloud:

  • TCP 17992 - Outbound connection to the VidyoCloud infrastructure. This port is used for signaling.  From the VidyoDesktop’s perspective, this port is needed to log in successfully.
  • TCP 17992 – Outbound connection to the VidyoCloud infrastructure. This is the signaling port for our media servers(VidyoRouters).  This port is needed to join a room/conference successfully.
  • UDP 50,000-65535 – Bi-directional for media traffic.
  • VidyoProxy – Outbound connection to the VidyoCloud infrastructure on TCP 443.
