Vidyo API Customers: Handling the Mozilla Firefox NPAPI Plugins Deprecation

Vidyo API Customers and Partners:

Mozilla® Firefox® will be deprecating the NPAPI plugin architecture altogether on March 7th with the release of Firefox version 52. When this happens, Vidyo’s NPAPI plugin available for Firefox will also cease to work.

Vidyo’s recommendation for customers and partners is to implement Vidyo’s WebRTC API solution. WebRTC is the industry’s path forward when it comes to video collaboration within browsers.

The following options are currently available:

  1. As a customer or partner, you can use Vidyo’s JavaScript APIs in your workflow for implementing web collaboration via WebRTC.

  2. If a Vidyo-based application is being loaded on Firefox and it is ONLY implemented to use the NPAPI plugin architecture, we are recommending that customers and partners modify the workflow such that a message advises users to use another browser for the video call.

If you select option #1, please direct your attention to the VidyoWorks API Developer Portal where you can download our latest WebRTC application at the location shown here:
